Professor Zhambyl Artykbayev's Trip to the Kyzylzhar Region

At the end of March 2026, at the invitation of the Internal Policy Department of the North Kazakhstan Region Administration and the State Institution "Public Accord" (Qogamdyk Kelisim), Professor Zh.O. Artykbayev made a working visit to the city of Petropavlovsk. This trip was carried out within the framework of the research project "Studying the Social Role of Folk Art in the Formation of Modern National Identity: Transformation and Reconstruction of Spiritual Culture" to establish scientific cooperation, exchange experience in celebrating the Nauryz holiday, and learn about efforts to shape national identity.
The main event was held in the format of a round table at the State Institution "Public Accord" of the Internal Policy Department of the North Kazakhstan Region Administration. The meeting was attended by employees of the North Kazakhstan Regional "Public Accord", representatives of the Regional Department of Culture, the Archive, specialists and students of M.K. Kozybayev University.
During the meeting, Professor Zhambyl Artykbayev delivered a report on the course of social development in the Republic of Kazakhstan, ethnic relations, specifics of interethnic processes, and language issues, and proposed rational ways to address problems in this area. The scientist provided young researchers and scholars with interesting and informative insights regarding the common foundations and distinctive features of ethnography, ethnology, and social anthropology.
Following this event, Professor Zh.O. Artykbayev visited the North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, where the discussion on traditional culture and spiritual values continued. The professor toured the museum's ethnographic exhibits and shared his opinions and recommendations regarding traditional artifacts.
He also familiarized himself with the work of the "Asyl Mura" (Precious Heritage) Creative Center located in the North Kazakhstan Regional Museum of History and Local Lore. Speaking to the gathering of labor veterans, the professor spoke about the traditional Kazakh institution of "Batalasu" (a ritual of blessing and poetic competition), shared his thoughts on the widespread use of this institution in society, among ethnic groups, and at various events, and proposed a scenario for its conduct.
During his time in Petropavlovsk, the administrative center of the North Kazakhstan Region, Professor Zh. Artykbayev visited the local museum known as the "Residence of Abylai Khan" or "Abylai Khan's Horde" (Orda), where he reviewed its exhibits and museum operations.
As the author of the book "Abylai Khan," Professor Zh. Artykbayev provided the staff of the "Residence of Abylai Khan" Museum with recommendations and advice on improving and scientifically substantiating the museum's exhibitions.
Another insightful and educational meeting in the Kyzylzhar region was a visit to the Crafts and Ethnography Center with students from the "Nazarbayev Intellectual School" located in Petropavlovsk. During this meeting, Professor Zhambyl Artykbayev viewed the center's ethnographic exhibition and examples of applied arts.
The working visit to Petropavlovsk — the center of the North Kazakhstan Region — proved useful and impactful both for the research team conducting studies under the project "Studying the Social Role of Folk Art in the Formation of Modern National Identity: Transformation and Reconstruction of Spiritual Culture" and for the local intelligentsia.
