
Scientific activity
The educational and research activities are carried out by highly qualified faculty members. The Department has a high academic reputation and strong research and teaching capacity to provide scientific and professional training for competitive specialists in ethnopolitology. The right to teach is confirmed by the relevant academic and pedagogical qualifications, academic degrees, and titles of the faculty members. The Department engages an authoritative pool of degree-holding scholars whose research outcomes are widely integrated into the educational process.
Currently, the Department employs 3 full-time faculty members and 6 part-time faculty members, including: 2 Doctors of Science, 2 Candidates of Science, and 5 PhD holders. The Department is 100% degree-qualified; all faculty members have professional specialization in the field of interethnic relations.
Faculty members participate in competitive research projects funded from the republican budget, on a contractual basis with business entities, as well as through the University’s extrabudgetary funds.

1) Grant project AR 14870265: “Features of Interethnic Relations in the Southern Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan during the Years of Independence.” Project Leader: N.P. Kalashnikova; Team members: Zh.M. Sabitov, D.B. Tyulebekova, K.A. Baitureyeva, Zh.A. Iskakova, K.Kh. Nurbek, A.K. Ishanova, S. Kenzhegalikyzy; with the participation of doctoral and master’s students.
2) Postdoctoral project “Zhas Galym” AR13268911: “Marital-Family and Reproductive Attitudes of Kazakhstani Youth by Ethnic Groups.” PI: Zh.A. Iskakova; Scientific Consultant: N.P. Kalashnikova.
3) Program-Targeted Funding (PTF) IRN BR 21882266: “Research on Historical Memory and Nation-Building Policy in Kazakhstan during the Years of Independence.” Team members include Zh.M. Sabitov, N.P. Kalashnikova, N. Samat.
The projects enable the integration of research achievements in interethnic relations and ethnopolitics into the educational process and stimulate publication activity among faculty and master’s students.
Academic Mobility and Professional Development
The University provides opportunities for career growth and professional development of faculty. For example, K.A. Baitureyeva (Candidate of Historical Sciences) completed a research internship under the Presidential International Scholarship “Bolashak” at Malmö University (Sweden) in 2011–2012 in the field of Political Issues of International Relations and Global Development.
