International cooperation of the Department of Oriental Studies
The specificity and profile of the training of the Department of Oriental Studies determines the important role of the international aspect of its activities.
Since its inception in 2000 (after the restructuring of the Faculty of Oriental Studies, established in 1999), the Department has been developing international cooperation in several directions:
- Invitation of foreign experts from the studied countries. In 2023-2024 visiting professors from the countries of the studied language worked at the department: PhD An Sang Hoon (Dankuk University, Republic of Korea), PhD Ashraf Attia (Ain-Shams University, Egypt), independent a specialist from Japan, Takumi Ishivatari and volunteers - PhD Marzie Sadat Razavi (Allameh Tabatabai University, Iran), master Son Seongdo, who contributed to improving the quality of training of future orientalists in the Arabic, Persian, Korean and Japanese departments, in particular, in the teaching of philological disciplines.
Foreign professors of the Department of Oriental Studies are invited as from among the partner universities of the ENU. L.N. Gumilyov, and other universities of the countries of the East in the areas of preparation of the department (Arab countries, the Republic of Korea, Iran, Japan, China).
- Cooperation with universities and research centers of the countries of the East, both from among partners and non-partners of ENU. The department maintains cooperation with various universities and research institutes of foreign countries, among them - the Confucius Institute in Astana, the Department of Oriental Studies, African Studies and International Relations of the Institute of International Relations of the Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, the Department of the Uzbek Language and Classical Oriental Literature of the International Islamic Academy Uzbekistan, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski", the «Turksan (Cultural Research and Art Center)» Center and the Department of the Azerbaijani Language and Literature of the Department of Modern Turkic Languages and Literature of the Natural and Humanitarian Faculty of the Caucasian University (Turkey, Kars), Center for Islamic Studies named after. On September 25, 2021, at the Faculty of International Relations, at the initiative of the Department of Oriental Studies, in an online format, together with the Scientific and Educational Center "ELGER" at the Caucasus University (Kars, Turkey), the International Scientific Conference "Past and Future of the Turkic World" was held, in which was attended by more than 50 representatives of the scientific and academic circles of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkey. On February 27, 2022, together with the ELGER Scientific and Educational Center at the Caucasus University (Kars, Turkey), Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University and Nakhchivan University, the XXIII International Scientific Symposium "Integration of cultures and multiculturalism.
October 11, 2021 at L.N. Gumilyov, a solemn event was held at which the start of the Persian language course was announced with the participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Kazakhstan Majid Sabers, teachers and students of the Persian department of the department.
On December 20, 2021, the teaching staff and students of the Persian department of the department took part in an event dedicated to the celebration of the Shab-e Yalda Day, which was organized by the Cultural Representation of Iran in Nur-Sultan.
On February 9, 2022, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Iranian Cultural Center and ENU.
On March 16, 2022, at the initiative of the senior teacher of the Department of Oriental Studies Akmaral Ualikhanovna Tyulyubaeva, the Nouruz holiday was organized with the members of the club of lovers of the Persian language and Iranian culture "Ariana". The event was attended by the director of the Iranian Cultural Center Ali Akbar Talebi Matin. 3rd and 4th year students and undergraduates in oriental studies took an active part.
On May 4, 2022, an exhibition of Iranian calligraphy by calligraphy master Mohsen Ibrahimi opened at ENU. The event was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to Kazakhstan Majid Samadzade Saber, director of the Iranian Cultural Center Ali Akbar Talebi Matin, teachers of the Department of Oriental Studies and students of the Department studying Persian as the first and second oriental languages.
On September 7, 2021, the Embassy of Kuwait donated books and magazines to the Arabic department of the department.
October 13, 2021 acting professor of the department Z.S. Ilyasova and students of the Sh-21 group took part in the presentation of the book by A. Tarabik in Arabic, dedicated to the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, at the National Academic Library (1 copy was donated by the author to the Arabic studies cabinet). On December 3, 2021, as part of the visit of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Manal Elsayed Yehia El Shinnawi, the diplomat met with the teaching staff and students of the Arabic department of the department.
March 25, 2022 acting Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies S.A. Tuleubayeva took part in the event, which was organized at the National Academic Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with the Embassy of Egypt in Kazakhstan on the occasion of the celebration of the Women's Day of Egypt as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the ARE, where she made a presentation on the life and work of the famous Egyptian singer Umm Kulthum. On May 17, 2022, the student club of Japanese language lovers "Mononoke" of ENU summed up the results of the 2021-2022 academic year and organized a farewell ceremony for university graduates. The event was attended by Deputy Diplomatic Representative, Advisor Kanata Tomohiro, First Secretary of the Department of Culture, Education, Information of the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kazakhstan Kinoshita Yuya, teachers and students of the Department of Oriental Studies.
During the 2022-2023 academic year, the department organized or coordinated the organization of the following events:
- July 20, 2022, professor of the department S.A. Tuleubaeva and 2-4 year students of the Arabic department of the department took part in the celebration of the National Day of Egypt, where they sang the Egyptian anthem in Arabic.
- In August 2022, professors of the department S.A. Tuleubaeva and Z.S. Ilyasova took part in a meeting with the famous Moroccan journalist S. Maaninu, who donated his works to the university library.

The forum was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Azerbaijan and is already the third joint event on the path of interaction with this scientific center.12. On October 20, 2022, teaching staff and students of the Korean department of the department took part in the webinar “Public diplomacy on the Korean Peninsula”, organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.13. On November 14-18, 2022, with the coordination of the department, the Olympiad in Persian language and Iranian studies was organized at the university.14. In April 2023, students of the Chinese department of the department took part in the city competition “Chinese Bridge”, where they took 2nd and 3rd prizes. On May 15, 2023, the teaching staff of the department attended a lecture by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Palestine, Dr. Muntaser Abu Zeid, organized at the university.20. As part of incoming academic mobility, students from Kyrgyzstan and Tatarstan studied at the department. As part of outgoing mobility, students and undergraduates of the department went to study in China, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Poland, etc. With the coordination of S.A. Tuleubaeva, responsible for international cooperation at the department, concluded and signed Memorandums of Understanding with Ain Shams University (Cairo, Egypt) and the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan. Also, the teaching staff of the department during the academic year took part incelebration of national days of the countries of the East, organized by various embassies accredited in Astana (Iran, Arab countries).
During the 2023-2024 academic year, the following events took place in the direction of international cooperation: - On September 26, 2023, teaching staff and students of the Chinese department of the department attended a meeting during the visit of the Chinese delegation led by the Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China (NPC), Mr. Hao Ping- September 29, 2023 in the office of Iranian studies of the Department of Oriental Studies, Faculty of International Relations, ENU. L.N. Gumilyov held a “Shab-e sheer” (“Poetry Evening”) with members of the club of lovers of the Persian language and Iranian culture “Ariana”, which was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran Ali Akbar Jowkar and the director of the Iranian Cultural Center Ali Akbar Talebi Matin.- On October 2, 2023, an event was held to admit 1st year students of the Korean department of the department to the Korean Club with the participation of an invited volunteer from South Korea, Mr. Son Songdo.- On November 23, 2023, the leadership and teaching staff of the department attended the celebration of the National Day of the Sultanate of Oman, organized by the Embassy of the Sultanate of Oman in Kazakhstan.- November 8, 2023 with the coordination of the head. department G.U. Violeta Dobichina, director of the Al-Farabi Center at Sofia University, confirmed her intention to develop contacts.- In December 2023, teaching staff and students of the departments attended a lecture by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Kazakhstan, Mr. Faisal Hanif al-Qahtani, dedicated to the celebration of World Arabic Language Day, celebrated annually on December 18.- On December 15, 2023, the teaching staff of the department took part in the round table “Academician Ziya Buniyatov as a scientist and his contribution to Turkic studies”, organized by the International Turkic Academy together with the Eurasian National University, where acting. professor of the department S.A. L.N. Gumilyov attended the award ceremony for Chinese language learners in Astana, as well as an evening dedicated to the New Year celebration.- Within the framework of cooperation between ENU and the Cultural Representation of Iran at the Iranian Embassy, acting. professor of the department S.A. Tuleubaeva, from January 4 to January 12, 2024, underwent a scientific internship in Farabi studies and Islamic sciences at the Institute of Short-Term Training and Research Programs at Al-Mustafa International University in the city of Qom, which is considered the spiritual capital of Iran. During the internship, prospects for the development of cooperation and the possibility of concluding a Memorandum of Cooperation between ENU and Al-Mustafa International University were also discussed.- On January 19, 2024, the management and teaching staff of the department, as well as an invited volunteer from the Republic of Korea, Mr. Song Songdo, attended a meeting with representatives from the South Korean Embassy in Kazakhstan - the first secretary, head of the Political Department, Yang Sebyok, and the leading expert of the Political Department, Shin Mingyong. The main purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the students of the Korean department of the department and discuss prospects for cooperation.- February 5, 2024 acting Professor S.A. Tuleubaeva represented the Department of Oriental Studies at the opening of an exhibition dedicated to Iranian calligraphy and the art of restoration of manuscript heritage, organized by the Cultural Representation of Iran at the Iranian Embassy and the National Center for Manuscripts and Rare Books of the Ministry of Culture and Information of Kazakhstan.- February 9 acting Professor S.A. Tolegenova attended the celebration of the National Day of Iran, dedicated to the 45th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution.
- On February 26, 2024, at the Faculty of International Relations, with the participation of the leadership and teaching staff of the Department of Oriental Studies, an online meeting was held with the Director of the Al-Farabi Center at “St. Kliment Ohridski” Sofia University Violeta Dobichina, during which the prospects for cooperation with the Bulgarian side were discussed. In particular, the possibility of developing a joint educational program in Oriental studies.
- Professor of the Department of Oriental Studies S.A. Tuleubaeva during February 2024, attended a number of university-level events with the participation of representatives from Middle Eastern countries.Thus, on February 23, 2024, ENU was visited by the representative of the Al-Mustafa International University (Iran, Qom) in Central Asia, Dr. Ali Mukhsini, who, at a meeting with the leadership of the university and the Faculty of International Relations, discussed the prospects for cooperation between the two universities in the field of humanities sciences, including in the field of Iranian studies and Farabian studies. Currently S.A. Tuleubaeva coordinates the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two universities. According to the new procedures, the consent of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan has now been received.On February 29, 2024, Chargé d'Affaires of Iraq Dr. Jabir Najm Abdullah al-Tamimi visited ENU, where he met with the top management of the university and discussed the prospects for cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education, science and culture. During his visit, the distinguished guest also inspected the Arabic studies room and expressed his readiness to provide all possible assistance to the development of the Arabic department of the Department of Oriental Studies. - On March 1, 2024, the department organized a training seminar by an invited volunteer from Iran (Allameh Tabatabai University), Doctor of Ph.D. Marzieh Sadat Razavi, on the topic “Theories in Second Language Acquisition,” which was attended by the management, teaching staff of the Department of Oriental Studies, as well as teachers from other universities in Kazakhstan .
- Cooperation with the embassies of various countries of the East, accredited in Astana. The Department of Oriental Studies is actively developing its relations with the embassies of various countries of the East (Iran, Pakistan, South Korea, Japan, China, Arab countries - Palestine, Egypt, Morocco, Lebanon, KSA, UAE, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Libya, Iraq, Qatar ), as well as with the Iranian and Korean Cultural Centers by holding joint meetings and events with representatives of the East, as well as by participating in events organized by the embassies of Eastern countries in Astana.
Ambassadors of various countries of the East, as well as employees of the embassies of these countries, regularly give lectures at the ENU (Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Iraq, Jordan, Morocco, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Egypt, Iran, Thailand, etc.).

- The teaching staff of the department also takes part in various international conferences organized abroad in online and offline formats.
- The students of the departments take language courses, country studies internships in the countries of the language being studied, both within the framework of the academic mobility program, and on the basis of grants provided by the countries of the East and at their own expense.
On April 25, 2023, the Department of Oriental Studies of the Faculty of International Relations of the L.N.Gumilev Eurasian National University held an International scientific and Practical conference "The Countries of the East in the context of modern international relations: problems and new research requirements" in offline and online format.


On April 27, 2023, the L.N.Gumilev Eurasian National University hosted a round table "Study of cultural ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Kazakhstan", dedicated to the thirtieth anniversary of relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Iran.


On May 15, 2023, a meeting was held with the director of «Arabiyafuskha» company Duysenbin Zoldas Kenesuly and the translator of the Embassy of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in Kazakhstan and the Arabic language teacher of «Arabiyafuskha» company Osman Serik as part of the Arab Club of the Department of Oriental Studies.


A global conference dedicated to the 10-th anniversary of the «Belt and Road» Initiative and the «gold of that thirtieth anniversary» between Central Asia and China.
