The Department of Regional Studies conducts a Scientific Seminar, where the faculty members discuss methodological issues of regional processes monthly. The faculty members present their research findings. The coordinator of the Scientific Seminar is PhD Kilybayeva P.K.

The faculty members annually hold scientific-practical conferences, which are platforms for discussions and exchanges of experiences among researchers, teachers, and students from Kazakhstan and abroad who are engaged in studies on contemporary international regional processes methodology.

The International Scientific-Practical Student Conference "Contemporary Issues of Regional Studies" is an annual scientific event traditionally held in the second half of the calendar year.

Under the leadership of A.N. Ospanova, the department completed a research project on the topic AP09260789 "The Issue of 'Diploma Mills' in the Higher Education System of Kazakhstan" from 2021-2023. The project involved Z.E. Nurbaev, Zh.M. Sabitov, and M.K. Bolysbekova.

The faculty members participated in the scientific projects of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

Under the scientific consultation of PhD, Professor A.N. Ospanova, the department is successfully implementing two "Zhas Galym" projects: AP14973037 "Cooperation between Kazakhstan and India: Attitude towards Afghanistan through the Prism of Strategies of the Two States" - led by the department's graduate, PhD U.M. Orakbayeva, and AP19175765 "Implementation of Gender Approaches in Educational Policy" - led by A.D. Bekebaeva.

Currently, the department is conducting a research project on the topic BR21882302 "Kazakhstan Society in the Context of Digital Transformation: Prospects and Risks" under the contract dated "17" November 2023 No. 387-PCF-23-25-1. This project is being carried out under the priority "Research in the Field of Social and Human Sciences" (protocol of the meeting from "23-31" October 2023 No. 7). PhD A.N. Ospanova, PhD K.I.N., Associate Professor Z.E. Nurbaev, PhD K.I.N. Kilybayeva P.K., G.K. Bukeshova, A.N. Zholdasbekova, and the department's doctoral students S. Kishibayeva and G. Musina are involved in this project.

On April 2, 2025, students, master's students and doctoral students of our department met with the dean of the faculty M.M. Kosybaev. At the meeting, the possibilities of professional and academic development of our university were discussed. In particular, an information session was held on academic mobility, research projects and conferences, publications in scientific journals. Also, the possibilities of volunteer programs, rules for scientific internships and participation in other events were presented.
